Granddad's Ashtray

Den & the Ligger - 1999

Recorded Delivery

The postman delivered me a letter
He knocked upon my door
So I thought that I had better
Get up and answer it, oh maybe I'll ignore it
Then he started with his ringing
So I just started singing so I couldn't hear him

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh

As his footsteps were receding
I started wondering what I was receiving
I went and had a look and on the doormat
I saw a little card I was familiar with the format
"This is your postman reporting
If you want your letter then you'll have to go to sorting!"

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh

Maybe it's a jumper from me mummy
What if it's the council asking me for money?
If it's a bill I'll do a runner
If it's a jumper, I wonder what colour
But is it a letter or a parcel?
He hasn't ticked the box - the lazy little rascal!

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh

Off I went with trepidation
Will it be sorrow or will it be elation?
Into the office with my ticket
The guy behind the counter told me I could stick it
Through the little gap in the partition
And as he went to have a look I gave him a rendition of

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh
(where's he got to?)
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh

When he came back from his searching
I saw from the envelope that it was from Virgin
We'd like to use your chorus as a jingle
And if it goes down well then we'll release it as a single

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la laaaaa
Ooooo ahhhhhh
Ahhh ahhh ahhh arrrrggghhh
