When the children play
They often get carried away
Sometimes there will be happy hearty cheers
And sometimes it will end in tears

Frequently we have to announce
Tell them it's not the winning that counts
Win or lose the playing is the aim
Win or lose it's just a game

You won't always win
Sometimes you will lose
Just take it on the chin
Don't get the blues
You won't always be first
There is no shame
Sometimes you'll be the worst
It's just a game

And when I can't see the wood for the trees
I wish that someone would say that to me
When all that I can see is trouble and strife
To remember its the game of life

And when I don't even know what life's for
And I think that I can't take anymore
