The Orchestra

At the orchestra concert the violin starts
He plays a solo all on his own

Then he is joined by a second violinist
Together they play a duet

A little bit bigger, a little bit lower
Now its a trio with the viola

Rich deep and mellow, in comes the cello
Together they form a string quartet

Now comes the double bass thick, low and grunty
I feel it through my chair

The harp adds its magic and glitters and sparkles
And music is filling the air

The sound that they make when they all play together
Reaches right into my soul
The orchestra sings when they all play together
Each part becomes a whole

Time for the woodwind, the flute enters brightly
And dances above us way up high

Then comes the oboe rich and reedy
Then comes the oboe dark and round

Hear how the clarinet bubbles so smoothly
With a woody and open, quite cheeky sound

Now here's the bassoon the bass of the woodwind
Now here's the bassoon with a comical tune

And when the woodwind and strings are all playing together
The sounds swirl around the hall
I could sit here and listen forever
And wonder at the sound of it all

The brass are announced by the sound of the trumpet
So bright and piercing and ever so loud

Here's the trombone bold and brassy
Here's the trombone bold as brass

Here comes the french horn with its hunting like call
Right over the other side of the great hall

Hear the tuba deep and low
Bass of the brass section big and slow

Here's the timpani
Here's the timpani

And cymbals and big bass drum
